Find the closest match to your natural hair pattern.

Discover your natural hair pattern using Curlsbot's curl classification system. Hair type guides product and routine choices. It explains key behaviors like shrinkage (how much curls shorten when dry) and elongation (how much they stretch), which impact definition and styling results.

Next: What's your hair porosity?

Porosity measures how your hair absorbs and retains moisture. It is determined by your cuticle structure and genetics, but it can also be affected by chemical treatments, heat styling, and environmental factors.

Low porosity

Cuticles are tightly closed. Water and products absorb slowly and may build up on the surface. Lightweight products and heat help improve penetration.

Normal porosity

Cuticles are healthy and intact. Hair absorbs and retains moisture well and responds easily to most products.

Mixed Porosity

Different sections of the hair have different porosity levels. Some areas may behave like low porosity (e.g. the roots), while others act like high porosity (e.g. the ends). Care should be adjusted per section.

High porosity

Cuticles are lifted or damaged. Hair absorbs moisture quickly but loses it fast. It often results from chemical processes or heat damage and benefits from strengthening and sealing products.

last: What's your hair Strand Width?

Strand width describes the thickness of each individual hair strand.

fine hair

Thin strands that are easily weighed down. Lightweight products and gentle formulations work best to avoid buildup.

medium hair

Balanced strand thickness. Responds well to most product types and styling routines.

coarse hair

Thick strands that often need richer, more nourishing products to maintain moisture and definition
